If you could describe the characteristics of the perfect sales market what would they be? Would they include: high growth potential, a market with unique needs that have been undeserved, daytime sales and prospects with a disposable income? Let's look at this perfect market: Seniors!
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an American turns 65 every second! Then add in 76 million of those fabulous Baby Boomers who are racing toward retirement. Can you say opportunity?? In fact by the year 2030, people age 65 and older will make up more than 20 percent of the overall population. It is an undeniable fact we're headed for an incredible surge in the retirement population that will last for decades.
The Senior market today is truly not what many sales people mistakenly think it is.
The Senior market is vibrant, energetic and looking to protect their assets and their families. And don't forget, they're living longer!
Consider this: only a few years ago seniors lived an average of five to ten years during retirements. Now the average length of retirement is now 22 years!
Admittedly, people are happy to live longer, but it creates a series problems if their assets don't last equally long or longer.
As an increasing number of Americans reach retirement age, they will have many of the same needs as every retiree has had before them: Medicare, long term care, final expenses, income continuation, asset protection and the ability to pass on their financial legacy to the family. The next generation of Seniors is used to more options, better and faster service and personalized attention.
If given the choice, would you rather set appointments to meet prospects from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or work appointments from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends? Most salespeople would choose daytime sales during the week, which allows for a more regular work schedule and provides you a choice in how you spend your evenings and weekends.
It's no secret that Seniors control the bulk of the wealth in the United States. The latest estimate puts it at 77 percent. This market has the resources and wants to purchase the products you present.
Much has been written about the massive group of people born between 1946 and 1964 known as the "Baby Boomers". They number 76 million strong. Members of this group span nearly twenty years of life and represent a wide range of life stages, life experiences and values.
Recent articles point out that the "Boomers" really do not have a grasp upon the impact that Long-Term Care can have on them.
In a study released by the American Heatlh Care Association, it is estimated that forty percent of Americans will experience
the most costly expense in their lives -- long-term-care -- in their retirement years. Despite this, "Boomers" are poorly informed
about the coverage they own and what it will cover. Twenty seven percent of "Boomers" think they are covered for Long-Term-Care,
but in reality, only six percent of the elderly have this, and very few "Boomers" actually carry this coverage.
Many of these people will work a lifetime doing the best to secure their retirement, only to see their funds depleted by the costs incurred when Long-Term-Care treatment becomes a reality. To avoid using their own funds to pay for these vital expenses, they can opt to purchase Long-Term Care coverage designed to pay these expenses for them.
Waiting, however, until one reached the traditional retirement year to purchase this much needed coverage can increase the cost to these "Boomers" dramatically. Waiting also expands the risk that they will not be physically able to qualify for the coverage due to adverse changes in health condition.
Can you help? You certainly can. The "Baby Boomer" market is there now and it is there for the taking. It is there for the sales people who recognize the tremendous potential this market presents. Do you want a good reason to pursue it? We can give you 76,000,000 reasons to do so!
ODIA is an independent life and health insurance brokerage firm specializing exclusively in the senior market. We have been in business for over thirty years and have thousands of well established customers in both Nebraska and Iowa. We are independently licensed with many of the country’s largest and most respected insurance companies. This ensures our clients have access to the best Medicare Supplements, Long Term Nursing Care, and Final Expense products available.
Let’s get one thing clear first, we are not your stereo-typical insurance agency! We market absolutely no traditional lines of insurance, investments or home and auto. And our sales reps are very different from what most people think of your every day insurance agent. This is everyone’s dream job, to have all the advantages and freedoms of being self employed with all the personal and financial support of a large corporation! Please read on…
Through years of experience, trial and error, and perseverance, we have developed a system of recruiting, training, support, leads, marketing, compensation and advancement that is unheard of for an agent in the senior market today. ODIA offers you an unbeatable opportunity for personal success. In addition, the first wave of “baby boomers” are now entering our market, setting the stage for incredible growth. We have recently constructed and moved into a new multi-million dollar office building and expect to triple our sales force.
Our sales reps are hired as independent contractors on a commission basis with a guaranteed minimum annual gross income of $50,000.00! There are no sales quotas. The only requirement is that you average a minimum number of presentations per week, our system will do the rest.
If you talk to any person in the insurance business, they will usually tell you that they spend about 90% of there time prospecting and only about 10% of there time actually sitting in front of someone trying to sell something. In addition, cold prospecting is usually what “burns-out” most sales people. We do absolutely no cold prospecting or telemarketing! And we will never ask you to provide us with a list of every friend and relative you’ve ever had to prospect from. ODIA will provide you with at least 40 pre-qualified leads every week, without fail, free of charge. We obtain all of our leads through direct mail advertising and call on only the prospects that respond by filling out and returning a card to us for more information.
Most insurance sales people must work many nights and weekends to be successful. One of the biggest advantages to working in the senior market exclusively is that most of our customers are already retired and at home during the day, so we work mostly banker’s hours. We could easily produce enough leads to work virtually 24-7, but we truly believe in a balance between work and family.
Our agents work only 4 days per week in the field (Mon-Thurs), completely manage their own time, and average 7-10 sales. Advanced commissions are paid “on the spot” every Friday morning and the agents have a true, work free, extended weekend every week. The majority of our customers are within a 3 to 4 hour radius of Omaha and Council Bluffs in the eastern half of Nebraska and the western half of Iowa. You will not have any more airport nightmares, but you must be willing to travel by car about 12 nights per month away from home. You will usually leave town on Monday morning and return home about dinner time on Thursday.
Most of the policies we are currently writing pay an average of 500% commission on the first month's premium. In other words, we are advancing the entire first year's commission when you collect only one month's premium to make the sale. ODIA will provide licensing, training, support, leads, office space, secretarial services, client service, and a proven marketing system. The only thing you need to think about is selling!
The key to your personal success is ODIA's weekly "Sliding Commission Scale" system. You will start out on the same scale as a veteran agent with many years seniority. Let’s talk about income potential.... Personal production of only 7 applications per week, averaging $50.00 per month in premium with an average commission level of 500% would equal a gross income of $1,750.00 per week. And that's with no renewal commissions yet. In addition to your regular weekly advanced commissions, residual or “renewal” commissions can last for many years on each policy you sell! You should expect your monthly renewal commissions to grow by at least $500 per month, per year. So for example, after two years you should be receiving at least $1,000 per month in renewals, after 3 years, $1,500 a month, and so on.
All of this is simple math, but if you really want to get excited, sit down with your calculator and figure out how much you would earn if you wrote 8 or 10 applications per week in addition to a couple of years renewals. $100,000.00+ per year gross income is very realistic. Although the long term pay off is lifetime vested renewal commissions you could retire on! In other sales jobs, you leave with virtually nothing. There is no other type of sales profession that offers this type of "walk away" income.
If you do not have a current insurance license, ODIA will assist you in obtaining all the necessary licensing needed. You must first have a resident Life/Health license in the state of Nebraska or Iowa. There are several companies that offer home study courses, which will satisfy the state's requirements and prepare you for your exam at the same time. After passing your exam, ODIA will obtain both your NE and IA licenses and appoint you with the individual insurance companies. The entire process takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks. ODIA will fully advance all exam, contracting, training expenses and commissions.
After you pass your exam, we will fully train you in every aspect of our proven marketing system. Your training will last 3-4 weeks. You will ride with one of our managers in the field 4 days a week and do office training on Friday mornings. ODIA will pay you an advanced training commission and travel expenses during the training period. When you have completed your training you will be on full weekly advanced commission. Immediately following your training, you will also be eligible for the $500 "Quick Start Bonus”. As an independent contractor, you will cover your own expenses such as car, food and motel which average about $150 per week, which also creates a fantastic tax deduction!
Please take the time to read the personal testimonials from some of our agents and managers on the next page. Virtually none of them originally thought of insurance as a career, but now enjoy an extremely secure and lucrative position with all the benefits and freedoms of managing your own career with out any of the big corporate headaches.
If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please complete the following application, attach your resume if you have one, and we will contact you to set up an interview.

Prior to coming to Omaha Division Insurance Agency, I had worked every sales job under the sun. After 18 years of selling for Corporate America, I was still looking for that "perfect" job. I stumbled across an advertisement in the newpaper that stated "3 day weekend, tired of working for Corporate America?" So, I answered the ad with my resume. After visiting Omaha Division Insurance Agency and meeting with the owner, I was extremely impressed. I knew the insurance business as both of my parents had been in the industry. The biggest thing that attracted me was the renewal income for the rest of my life. ODIA and the owner are unlike any other insurance company you could work for. You have the independence to be your own boss, work in a relaxed atmosphere, the freedom to work your own schedule, no quotas, more company leads than you can possibly work, and 100% support from a very talented and knowledgeable team. At the age of 43, I wasn't looking for another "job", I was looking for a career. After working for ODIA for 8 months, I knew this is the last job that I'll ever need. This could be a very rewarding career for you, too!
ODIA is one of the few sales jobs that actually lives up to their promises. Whether or not you have experience or formal education, if you can simply work without supervision, apply the simple, proven approach to the sale that you are taught, you will make more money than virtually any other sales job in Omaha. In addition, you will build renewal income that you can count on at the end of every month.
The office staff are great people, and helps control the issues that would eat up your time, so that you can fully focus on sales. In addition, Jim Gray does everything possible to provide a dynamic environment that supports personal and professional growth; from unlimited food and beverages on Fridays, to the wide selection of self-help tapes available in the “house library”. Jim’s personal wisdom from having “been in the field” himself for nearly 20 years is a great learning tool that saves countless hours of frustration by eliminating the need to “re-invent the wheel”!
I would recommend ODIA to any adult who knows how to work without someone over their shoulder, and who desires a high income
I have spent years in sales and management jumping from one company to another looking for that comfortable mix between rewarding work and financial success. I have finally found that career with Omaha Division Insurance Agency.
I am very impressed with the system of lead generation, appointment setting and selling that Jim Gray has refined over the years. The whole process made it very easy to go from training, to $2,000.00 a week in a very short time. In addition, the future trends of baby boomers hitting the senior market, changes taking place in health care, and my growing renewals, are pointing to an unlimited future.
In addition to all of that, the people we call on are a pleasure to visit with, and rewarding to help.
I started out in route sales for Frito Lay selling chips. I was frustrated because after delivering and stocking product, there wasn’t any time left for selling more products. I thought if I could concentrate on selling only, I could make more money.
I got my chance in the insurance business. I had my doubts about a full commission job. But all I had to do was work hard and be careful about spending money. Once my renewal income kicked in, I had a base to work from.
I never dreamed I would be making $150,000 a year and have my independence to work on my own. With vested renewal income, it is better than any other sales job – you have guaranteed income.
The future looks better than ever in the senior market. With Medicare freeing up money on the new prescription plan, people can buy the insurance they want. And with baby boomers turning 65 soon, we will have all the business we can handle.
Dare to Dream!
I am 27 years old and live in Papillion, NE. I graduated with a bachelor of science degree from the University of South Dakota in 2000. My wife and I
were recently married in April of 2003. My wife, Michelle, is a psych tech at Children's Hospital in Omaha and works with children and young adults with eating disorders.
My previous career involved counseling troubled teens at a residential treatment facility. I enjoyed working with kids, but was ready for a change with new challenges and where doors are wide open for my future.
I took my insurance exam and was hired by Jim Gray in July of 2003. I knew that the job would present challenging and rewarding opportunities that I had never experienced. However, I was a bit skeptical about being away from home and Michelle for a few nights a week. It took us a few months to adjust to the change and has eventually even strengthened our love and respect for one another.
Omaha Division Insurance Agency has given me the freedom I've always wanted in a job. It has definitely been rewarding throughout my first year of employment. I am now beginning to see even more rewards during my second year as my renewals from previous written business have begun accumulating. Because of my job, my wife and I have been able to accomplish some of our small aspirations and begun setting new and even more exciting goals in our lives.
When my husband first approached me about becoming an insurance broker for Omaha Division Insurance Agency, I was incredibly skeptical. He had a great job with good hours and
was home every night and had most weekends off. I thought how could we possibly continue to grow as a couple if he is out of town working three to four days a week. I thought no amount of money could make me feel at ease with this,
besides, we have said that our relationship always comes before either of our careers.
As we weighed out the pros and cons, we began to realize that this job could be a great opportunity for us. Chad is very hardworking and determined, but the thought of him leaving a salary job to work soley on commission was a bit scary for me. As we spoke with other brokers, we understood that it would not take long for Chad to learn about the products and begin on his own. Jim and the other brokers were very accommodating, and took the time to go out each week to train him, until he felt confident about his abilities.
The first few months that Chad started working for Omaha Division Insurance Agency was definitely a change. We began making the most out of the time that we did spend together which made the adjustment much easier. One of the best things about his job is the flexibility that is allowed with his work schedule. We have the opportunity to travel more and do things that, had he stayed at his other job, we wouldn't have been able to do. We have been able to go skiing in the winter and go boating in the summer, things that we were not able to do as much with his other job. The holidays are also incredible. Before Chad was working every other holiday and now we are able to take several days off to be with our families.
The increase in salary has definitely made things easier. We have been able to pay off debt that we had struggled to pay in the past. I believe that money does not bring happiness, but his job has allowed us to focus more on each other, and less on our finances. I know that this challenge has strengthened our relationship and has allowed us to enjoy our lives together in a way that we may never have been able to experience.
An Insurance Man?! That’s what I told myself when I was growing up and was trying to figure out what to do with my life. Looking back over all the years, I’ve been dealing with people on a “one-to-one” basis. When I was introduced into the world of insurance, I was able to use my experience in customer service and develop my skills even further. I’m glad I made the decision to try this endeavor. Not only for the gratification of helping people, but for the financial gains this career offers. This is truly a rewarding job for me. The work schedule, commission structure, and job security are all positive aspects that make this so appealing. This is honestly a career that pays you for what you put into it. With the renewal commissions and vesting Omaha Division Insurance offers, this is a job I can plan the rest of my life around. I’m glad I made the choice to join the Omaha Division Insurance team, not only for myself, but for my family.
I am 25 years old. While attending school at UNI, I accepted a position selling cell phones. Being number 5 in the company made me realize that sales was the career path that I wanted to take. After graduation, I went to work for an insurance company. Although I greatly enjoyed the work, selling for a company that wasn’t very competitive in the field I wanted to be in, made it difficult. Searching around, I found Omaha Division Insurance Agency that allows me the opportunities to sell for more than 20 companies.
I was hired January 2003. My first year’s experience has been challenging but very rewarding, not only personally but financially as well. Knowing that I have job security, unlike working for corporate America, is very important to me. I love being on the road, I don’t like working nights and weekends. I enjoy working with people! I love my 3 day weekends, the immediate gratification of getting paid friday morning for all of the work I did that week.
ODIA also gives me the opportunity to work towards vested renewals, which will allow me guaranteed income for whatever the future may bring. There is no other job out there that will give you a fast jump start ahead like ODIA.
No Way! That was my first reaction to selling insurance. I had a $45,000/year salary and sat behind a desk 50 hours per week. Back in the mid 90’s this sounded OK and switching to 100% commission was scary to me. But, after putting pencil to paper, I took the leap. Before selling insurance, the only ‘commission’ type work I had ever done was, as a kid, mowing lawns, shoveling driveways, and turning in pop bottles. Now, I manage myself, do not wear a tie, or work behind a desk, and will bring in about $150,000 this year.
I have 18 years in the insurance industry, and am very happy with my career choice. I sought out a career with Omaha Division Insurance Agency and found that the marketing system, ethics, pay structure, management, and staff support - all the elements I was looking for - were in one location.
There is nothing lacking here. I can honestly say that my career here has been the most rewarding due to the ethical sales approach, the diversity of product to the client, and the extraordinary income potential that goes with it.
There are not many chances to find a company and staff like we have here at Omaha Division Insurance Agency. We have a professional office environment with a four day work week. Also, all leads are provided, so there is no cold calling.
I have been on straight commission for 18 years, and there are abundant opportunities at Omaha Division Insurance Agency, if you are willing to work for it. The renewal commissions are overwhelming. Effort does not go without its rewards.
I started ODIA from the back bedroom of my home in 1980. I had been in sales before but never dreamed I would end up in the insurance business...
After losing my previous job in the poor economy of late 1979, I answered a small classified ad for insurance sales. Little did I know how it would change my life. I tripled my previous best annual income, bought a house, two cars, and started ODIA all before my 22nd birthday. We have always been family owned and operated. Both my brothers, John and Jerry, were the agency managers and my mother, Peggy, was my office manager for 10 years before she retired.
Because we are totally independent, we have no large coporation dictating what we do. We will never have some executive that lives in another city make a decision that will wreck our lives. In other words, no one is ever going to move us, downsize, reorganize or fire us. I personally believe there is little job security in Corporate America today.
Even after more than 30 years and becoming a multi-million dollar operation, we are still very much family oriented. I do not believe in the corporate 50 to 60 hour work week. My philosophy is a balance between work and family. We work hard for four and a half days a week, make a very decent living, and still have quality, uninterrupted, time with our families.
I am looking for sales people who are very energetic, self motivated, and prefer to work unsupervised. No insurance experience is necessary, but we prefer candidates with a natural strong sales ability. If you are a good match, I would like to meet you.
